If Armand Assante ...Hey there, Miss Fussy-britches! If Armand Assante was good enough for an under-aged Tatum O'Neal, he's good enough for you, even if he does resemble a hairy, human bullet.

The Testament DVD is out of print and will probably never get issued again due to the prohibitive cost of licensing The Beatles song that is on the soundtrack. I've been hoping for it to show up on Instant Watch or Hulu, but for now, YouTube is the only place to see it. I've got my Mac hooked up to my TV so I can pretend I'm not watching on a computer (and then I invariably try to use my DVD remote and wonder why it's not working).Shiftlesshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01593430909737600045noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9118468513410762103.post-30679558300936233082012-08-28T13:06:19.591-07:002012-08-28T13:06:19.591-07:00Pff, I have no need for the Assante. VERY miscast.

But on serious matters, now I remember our discussion because I believe that's when you turned me on to Last Night. I am getting so old...

I normally hate watching films via youtube because I always feel like my 52" screen is laughing at me, but I may give it a go anyway if the DVD doesn't come out soon.

And yay for The Caller! I'm so glad to see more and more people finding it. It's a nice lil genre treat.deadlydollshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06061028044836745499noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9118468513410762103.post-35318649299874379212012-08-28T11:06:19.528-07:002012-08-28T11:06:19.528-07:00Yes, we've bandied about On the Beach before. ...Yes, we've bandied about On the Beach before. Didn't you leave some feedback for the GGtMC about wanting to be the bologna in an Armand Assante/Bryan Brown sandwich? Maybe I'm misremembering that, it could have been something about tying Ava Gardner to an ant hill while you picnicked with Gregory Peck. In any event, I think the Shute novel is the best, most lucid telling of the story but I like both film adaptations also. As I said in the blog though, I think it has a few too many characters and plot lines and thus loses a little of its otherwise strong emotional punch.

Testament is on YouTube (in its entirety, not in annoying parts and it's in widescreen too!) through the link above "Final Score" at the bottom of the blog. I can't imagine that you would dislike the film Emily, and at 90 minutes, it gets the job done quite efficiently. It avoids weepy sentimentality (but bring a huge box of kleenex anyway) and feels quite honest and realistic throughout. If it has a flaw (and I don't think it does) it's that it doesn't feel cinematic because it was originally made for American Playhouse on a shoestring budget. However, I think this actually adds to the intimacy and doesn't force feed emotional impact through big sweeping shots, a grandiose score or what have you.

Thanks for the feedback, and keep up the good work with your blog. I just watched The Caller last night based on your review - good stuff!Shiftlesshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01593430909737600045noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9118468513410762103.post-67577415988125405722012-08-28T04:10:46.973-07:002012-08-28T04:10:46.973-07:00I've been on the lookout for this one for a wh...I've been on the lookout for this one for a while but it's still only in the 'save' queue on Netflix. Definitely sounds up my alley!

Have we talked about On the Beach? I'm kind of obsessed with it, even though I think all three--the novel, 1960 film, and 1999 miniseries--miss the mark. deadlydollshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06061028044836745499noreply@blogger.com
