Has a genuinely affecting intro and the paranoia reminds me of Mark Z. Danielewski's House of Leaves.

When it comes to the ending, it definitely fell flat, like they wanted to explain everything when it was more affecting without the explanation. I've seen it five or six times now, the opening probably a dozen times, and I think the best place to end it would be when he finishes talking at his wife through the static and abandons the walkie-talkie. I've shown it to a few people, cutting it off right then and they're legitimately disturbed. But a few have asked to see the real ending then say that it almost makes them hate the movie.Justin D Herdhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01126888256820268123noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9118468513410762103.post-36606130017201701272012-01-16T05:15:59.515-08:002012-01-16T05:15:59.515-08:00Thanks Emily. They came just short of apologizing for the substandard look of the ending citing budgetary constraints, but I think it does fit the plot. The film was so well acted and executed in general, I'm genuinely baffled by the mixed reviews - this was a solid effort and is already a favorite of mine.Shiftlesshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01593430909737600045noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9118468513410762103.post-90606333463595308502012-01-16T04:47:07.379-08:002012-01-16T04:47:07.379-08:00Great review! I didn't mind the ambiguity, but the actual execution of the ending didn't fall right with me. I'm definitely going to rewatch it to see how I feel upon second viewing. FOr me, the first 99 minutes or so are SO good--effectively creepy, weirdly new, and excellently acted--that the quick coda just felt like a letdown. But I've been recommending this to everyone and I"m genuinely excited to revisit it. Great example of creative horror still being made, cynics be damned!deadlydollshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06061028044836745499noreply@blogger.com
